Bertha Walker Glass spent eighteen summers at Gloucester, having found much to inspire her among the town’s winding streets and waterfront, as seen in Fishing Boat at Dock, Gloucester.

She exhibited with the North Shore Arts Association and the Gloucester Society of Artists, and became good friends with Post-Impressionist painters Richard Hayley Lever and David Burliuk, who, like Glass, resided in New York but spent the warmer months on Cape Ann. In addition to joining the clubs just mentioned, the artist was a member of the National Association of Women Artists, and exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1926 and 1927, and at the National Academy of Design in 1930.
