As he had in Giverny, Theodore Wendel found plenty of inspiring subject matter both close to his home on County Street and among the fields and marshes of the family’s Lower and Upper Farms on Argilla Road.
More information about this painting...
In Argilla Farm, from Upper Farm, Ipswich, the artist painted a view of a neighboring homestead as seen from his own property located just a half-mile northwest. While the scenery is rustic and the palette more subdued, the painting is enlivened by the artist’s fluctuating brushwork, from the short strokes in the foreground grass and trees to the banded swaths in the mid-ground fields and finally the delicate gauzy rendition of the overhead sky and clouds.
