William Hart served as the first president of the Brooklyn Academy of Design upon its founding in 1865 and was a founder and president of the American Watercolor Society. Today, his paintings can be found in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Smithsonian American Art Museum, High Museum of Art, and Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
