For more than 180 years, Vose Galleries has championed the tradition of American Realism painting, specializing in the many stylistic threads that comprise the tapestry of this lasting art movement. The Enduring Spirit of American Realism is a two-part exhibition that reexamines the artistic practice of Realism in the United States through two lenses: that of its "traditional" definition in A Touch of Tradition and that of its "modern" application in A Nod to the Mod. We are pleased to continue championing the dynamic tradition of American Realism through this exhibition, and we are excited to engage with our clients in the ongoing conversation of what defines "Realism."

A Touch of Tradition encompasses the aesthetic that art collectors typically expect when they hear the word "Realism." It ranges from the crisp brushwork and picturesque transcriptions of Nature by Francis Augustus Silva and Benjamin Champney to the soft, colorful Impressionism of Lee Lufkin Kaula and Philip Leslie Hale. The exhibition also features fresh works by American masters including William Bradford, Lemuel D. Eldred, and Gordon Grant.
