This example of Great Blue Heron was purchased directly from the artist around 1988 and installed on the owner’s Wells, Maine, property overlooking wetlands beside the Atlantic Ocean, the perfect setting for a bird about to take flight.

The piece was enjoyed for thirty years until the owner passed away in 2018, and it now comes to Vose Galleries from a coastal Maine land conservation organization near and dear to the owner’s heart. According to Elliot, only nine casts were made of Great Blue Heron, two of which are on public display: one at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts, in a pond near the Lyman Plant House and Conservatory, and the other in the courtyard fountain of the Darien Public Library in Connecticut.
