These elements are present in the charming Two Fishermen in a Rowboat, which, according to an inscription on the back, may have been painted at Auvers-sur-Oise, located just northeast of the village of Pontoise where his friend Jiménez Aranda’s had settled by the late 1880s. The tower in the distance appears to be that of Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption, the church made famous by Vincent Van Gogh in his 1890 painting.
