The Frozen Brook is an exceptional example of Waltman’s work, demonstrating his gift for recording the gradations of lovely blue and pink tones that human eyes discern when viewing snow firsthand. He was equally brilliant for truthfully capturing the heaviness felt by the tree branches sloping under their frozen burden and the warm glow of winter sunlight just beyond the edge of the woods.
