As part of Gloucester’s Stage Fort Park, Half Moon Beach has been a popular tourist destination for decades. The historic site of Gloucester’s first settlers, the beach was used by fishermen as early as 1623, but it has more recently become known as a pleasant swimming beach for summer visitors. Canadian-born artist Melbourne Hardwick is just one of many painters to depict this small, sandy beach with its distinctive rocky outcropping and sweeping views of the Gloucester Harbor.
