Given the inclement weather, the view likely depicts a corner within walking distance of the artist’s lodgings at 26 Division Street, looking west toward masts of ships along the waterfront. The stillness of the scene is broken only by the slight presence of humanity represented by the lone horse-drawn carriage and what appear to be footprints in the right foreground.
