Andrew Melrose, a Scottish immigrant to the United States, is best known for his landscapes of New Jersey, the Hudson River Valley and New York Harbor, and also embarked on many painting trips to the mountains of North Carolina, to Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, and to the Berkshires in Western Massachusetts, where this charming scene of rustic life was rendered.
