Massachusetts artist Michael Keane became interested in the fine arts in his early childhood, and as a young man studied under noted marine specialist Marshall W. Joyce for several years. He rounded out his education through lessons with figure painter Clemente Micarelli and also majored in Visual Design at the University of Massachusetts, but the ships navigating the rugged coastlines and quiet coves of New England continued to inspire him and determined the course of his successful career.Contact Vose about this artist

An experienced seaman and boat-builder, Keane’s renditions accurately portray sailing vessels and how they move through the water, whether painting brightly-colored Nantucket catboats rounding a headland, yachts racing offshore, or pilot boats and full-rigged frigates in a calm harbor. While the ships he captures are true to their design, light and atmosphere are important elements of his work, instilling his scenes with a sense of romanticism for maritime life. Keane has won numerous awards and prizes throughout his career and his paintings have been acquired by both private individuals and corporate collections for decades.
